We have all watched our cat looking out the window trying to find something, it may be tempting to let them outside and chase that thing they’re looking for. But don’t, according to experts your cat can live considerably longer if kept indoors, however this doesn’t have to mean your cat can’t ever go outside though. This was the whole reason we started Secure A Cat, we know how much they love the outdoors and we knew there was a way for them to be able to enjoy it but also stay safe and healthy. Letting your cat roam the neighbourhood might sound cool, buts its not safe!
There are a number of things that can go wrong if you don’t keep them in a safe cat enclosures;
Car Accidents
According to many studies, traffic accidents are the number 1 cause of unexpected death in outdoor cats. Younger cats are 300% more likely to be involved in a car accident than cats over 6 years of age. Even though your own neighbourhood might be quiet and seem safe, cats are known to roam up to a kilometre away from their homes. Having cat enclosures is practically impossible for them to escape from, keeping them safe at home.
Predator Attacks
According to council record there are over 300 cats being attacked by dogs just in NSW every year, apart from those cute online videos of cats giving dogs a run around, we can assume it doesn’t always go down that well for our feline friends. Of course, dogs aren’t the only animals that cats must be wary of. Cat enclosures will not only keep your cat off the streets, but it will keep another predators from entering.
Diseases
A cat roaming around the neighbourhood is a prime target for fleas, ringworms and other parasites. Probably the worst possibility is your little friend catching Feline Immunodeficiency Virus. It spreads through scratches and bites that can happen through cat fights. It affects between 15-30% of cats according to experts. If your cat gets FIV it will inevitable develop Feline AIDS, which unfortunately is incurable and fatal. Vaccination is only effective against certain strains, so the only way to prevent this happening in the first place is to keep them out of trouble with a secure outdoor cat enclosure!
Poison
We can all agree that cats are cute, and we can also all agree that they are curious little creatures. Sometimes they eat stuff they shouldn’t, like poison you or a neighbour might have put out for another furry friend. Cats eat grass and plants as it helps with their digestion, but they don’t always know what else that grass has on it. If you have them in an enclosure you can be sure that everything is safe for you little friend to play with.
Theft
Unfortunately, you are not the only lover of your cat, some people love other cats so much that they think its rightfully theirs and steal it! Another thing to note is that the feline fur trade exists. Keeping your cat at home and safe in a cat enclosure will ensure you never have to think of your kitty being used in such a way.
Summary
